Hi Everyone! One Is Greater Than None just helped to sponsor a RAM expedition in Nashville, Tennessee on February 19th and 20th. Our donation went towards purchasing pediatric antibiotics among other necessities. Because of your continued support, 1>0 is able to help those, in our own country, in desperate need of medical assistance.

On June 11th and 12th, we will be participating in our second RAM expedition in Kentucky! We are all so excited to have this hands on opportunity to help make a difference in people's lives! We will be posting all the details on our blog when we return.

Cactus Salon Fundraiser

Hey Everyone! On January 23rd One Is Greater Than None teamed up with the Carol Kestenbaum Foundation to host a fundraising event at the Cactus Salon in Syosset, NY. Sylists and technicians from the salon donated their time to help. The proceeds were split between our two charities. It was a day of beauty and relaxation for all those who attended.

This event raised $5,000! Raffles included Knicks tickets, Southwest Airline tickets, wine tasting (for the adults!), two beautiful diamond necklaces, and much more. Services such as manicures, pedicures, massages, spray tans, hair cuts, etc...were enjoyed by all.

We want to thank everyone who came out to support this event. Thank you also to the Cactus Salon and their amazing employees, Rita Kestenbaum for believing in our cause, Kerry for organizing this incredible event and to all those who donated the raffles. The donations raised could not have happened without you!

Our First RAM Expedition in Kentucky!!!!

Hi everyone! It's Anjelica. On June 18th, six of us, along with some of our parents, headed down to Pikeville, Kentucky to volunteer at our first Remote Area Medical (RAM) expedition. We volunteered on June 19th and 20th. The entire weekend was both eye opening and inspiring. We all knew how serious the health crisis is right here in our own country but seeing it for ourselves really hit home.

Reality struck us at around 6 in the morning on June 19th. As we were walking through the high school, that was converted into a medical facility, we passed people who were both standing in line and sitting in chairs, waiting for help. We spoke to some of the people waiting and they told us that they came the night before and slept in their cars. Lines formed early in the morning and if they received too high a number, they knew there was a possibility that they could not be seen. Well, that really struck a chord. How horrible that a person must wait 12 hours for help and sleep in their car just to get a tooth removed or their heart checked out.

This problem with health care is real and the people are real. We weren't just reading about it, we were witnessing it. The hardships people must face just to get simple medical care is heartbreaking. It is difficult to imagine what it would be like if one of us was in pain and our parents couldn't afford to take us to the doctor. These people without health care wait months, and even years to get the help they need. For some people, by the time they are able to see a doctor it's already too late.

We were lucky enough to have a hands on experience. Not only did we participate in one of the biggest RAM Kentucky clinics, but we also met the most amazing people ever (Shout out to Stan Brock, Dr. Collins, Jaymie, the US Public Health Service, and the Super Six!!). With the help of so many volunteers, close to 1,000 people were able to receive free medical attention! This included cancer screenings, getting teeth pulled, receiving new glasses, heart check ups and much more.

We cannot wait until our next RAM expedition. This experience has made us determined to raise even more money for expeditions in the future!

1>0 First RAM EXPEDITION

The 1>0 girls will be volunteering in a Kentucky RAM Expedition on June 19th and 20th. This will be the largest clinic RAM has ever done in Kentucky. This expedition, which will provide free health care to uninsured and underinsured Americans, has been made possible from donations given by you!

Some first time clinics are Autism, Podiatry, Dermatology, Oral Cancer, Colo-rectal cancer, a variety of women's health clinics, and drug addiction intervention. Physician training for 2 days is being provided by the US Public Health Service.

In addition, RAM will have over 300 dental personnel for an 80 chair dental clinic. They will also provide the usual medical clinics such as general health, diabetic clinics, full cardiology clinic, osteopath clinic, men and womens health, mammograms, and routine laboratory work. RAM will have 600 volunteers!

So...if you have donated to 1>0, you have helped to provide much needed healthcare to a fellow American. This person is someone's parent, wife, husband, sister, brother, grandparent, or child.

We were so excited to hear everyone’s story while socializing with other people who own businesses. We want to thank Beverly Fortune for putting on such an amazing event at the Tills Center at C.W. Post. We loved meeting everyone and getting to share our story with more people! We are looking forward to the next event.

Bellmore JFK High School Raises $3562.64!

It's Sammi! What an AMAZING outpouring of support from the students & staff at Bellmore JFK High School!!! The school helped 1>0 raise thousands of dollars to supply free healthcare to Americans in need.

On Friday April 30^th, 207 participants walked in the “1>0 Walk for Healthcare”. Students arrived at the registration table, and in exchange for a minimum $10 donation to 1>0, students were given 1>0 logo tees, a ticket for free ice cream for the first 100 registrants and a free bottle of water. The students, staff and administration walked the track, enjoyed the beautiful weather and some fun music, and raised money and awareness for a great cause. This event was the culmination of a week filled with fundraising efforts including a “Change for Healthcare” contest that was supported by the Social Studies Department. Each Social Studies class collected change, with the top four classes receiving homemade (by 1>0!) baked goods as their prize!

The “Walk for Healthcare” and the “Change for Healthcare” events together raised $3562.64! The money raised will be donated to Remote Area Medical (www.ramusa.org) so that Bellmore JFK High School , along with 1>0, can help sponsor a Weekend Medical Clinic. Remote Area Medical (RAM) supplies free medical care to Americans in need and they can service more than one thousand people in a single weekend. Since RAM relies on the generosity of volunteers and the donation of most supplies and equipment, it is possible for a $5 donation to cover free medical, dental or vision treatment for one person.

Hi! It's Kayla! The Jazz Unlimited Dance School in Cherry Hill, New Jersey recently had a "Dance For A Cause" dance recital and they donated their profits to One Is Greater Than None!

We were invited to the event and it was so much fun! All of the dance performances were choreographed by the dancers, and they were all really amazing. None of us could believe how great they were. By raising money on their own, selling tickets to the recital, and organizing a raffle, the recital raised OVER 6,500 DOLLARS!!!!!!! We were so overwhelmed and excited that kids were able to raise such a huge amount of money!

Even if they hadn't raised as much as they did, we could still tell that these dancers were so passionate about making a difference...which they did. With the money they raised, they were able to sponsor the rescue of 11 year old Francis Agbesi who started working as a slave on Lake Volta when he was only 5 years old. Their money is also going to help sponsor a Remote Area Medical expedition in the fall.

These dancers are truly incredible! THANK YOU JAZZ UNLIMITED!

Andrew Baker Came To Visit Us!

Hey guys! It's Jessica. Andrew Baker, from the Encouragement Foundation came and paid us a visit. If you remember, the Encouragement Foundation awarded One Is Greater Than None "The Most Encouraging Teens in America." At our meeting, Andrew gave us a check for $5000 that we had won along with the award! It was very cool. He also came to show us the documentary that he had finished. It follows Andrew and the Encouragement Foundation on their 7 days across America journey and all the amazing teens that he showcased, including 1>0! After the screening of the documentary, we all had dinner together. What a terrific night!

Ally Katz Tween Summit - California

Hi! It's Chelsea. In March, I went to California to speak at the Ally Katz Tween Summit. It was absolutely amazing! It was held at UCLA which is such a beautiful campus.

I had the chance to meet so many wonderful people who, like me, just wanted to help. I was apart of a group of charities who had the chance to speak with over 100 tween girls about the phrase, "Do something! Do anything!" It's such a simple concept but the things that we are able to achieve when we work hard and together!

The tweens were so inspiring to us because they had such enthusiasm. We met with Brook White. What a great weekend!

Holocaust Museum

On Sunday, February 28th, the 1>0 girls and their families were invited to the opening of the newly renovated Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center Of Nassau County. It is located on 100 Crescent Beach Road in Glen Cove, NY.

The six galleries of the museum are filled with artifacts, videos, photographs and archival footage. Set up like a time line, each gallery takes you through all of the horrible events that occured from the beginning of the Holocaust all the way up to the genocide that still occurs today.

The 1>0 girls are honored to have a plaque with their picture in the sixth gallery of the museum. This gallery tells two very different stories. On one side are images of the genocide that has occured since the Holocaust. On the other side are the pictures of ordinary heroes who have stood up to injustice.

The girls were even more honored to meet Mr. Eddie Weinstein, a Holocaust survivor and author of 17 Days In Treblinka: Daring To Resist And Refusing To Die. This is an amazing book of survival. Several of the guides in the museum are Holocaust survivors themselves.

It was such a memorable afternoon and one that each of the girls and their families will treasure for many years to come.

We want to acknowledge two great kids who have recently made a donation to 1>0. Stelio Kanaras and Nicolette Skoufis raised $13.50 for 1>0 by selling raffle tickets to their families. They made the raffles themselves. The prizes? Hugs, kisses, their toys and random chachkas from Stelio's room. While $13.50 may seem like a small amount of money, it will go a long way and we're happy to say that Stelio, age 8 and Nicolette, age 7 have now become "Part of the Equation". Eric Peasah Came To New York!

Eric Peasah recently came to New York to spend some time with us. Eric Peasah is from the IOM and he is the man who performs the rescue missions to save the enslaved children in Ghana. He updated us on the IOM's current operations and gave us even more detailed information on the process of the rescue missions, as well as information on our children. Eric stayed for dinner and we spoke to him about slavery in Ghana, as well as the life of children in Ghana. He also told us about the Ghanian culture and he even taught us two songs! One song is called “Da Na Si”. The words are:

Da Na Si Da Na a si. Da unya me na si

The lyrics literally mean “Thank Him. Thank the Lord” and it is a very popular saying in Ghana. He also taught us another song that is popular in Africa, particularly in Kenya:

Hakuna matata

We are very fortunate to have such a close relationship with the three organizations that we support. It’s hard to believe that we have been able to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time. Three years ago, none of us would have imagined that we would be close friends with a man who lives halfway across the world, let alone saving the lives of children halfway across the world!

It was such a great and memorable night.

We wanted to write a blog acknowledging two girls who have been trying to raise $4300 for One Is Greater Than None. These girls are determined to each save a child!

Ashley Nesenoff founded the organization “Long Island Go Green Campaign” and has been committed to raising money and awareness for One Is Greater Than None. She already organized two fundraising events, a flashlight corn maze and a bowling event. She was able to raise around $300. Caroline Lucas is an elementary school student who heard us speak at her school in Glen Head, NY. She decided to make cookies and greeting cards to raise money for One Is Greater Than None. Her goal is to raise $4300 before she graduates high school. Recently she has been selling her holiday greeting cards at church fairs and is going to start making birthday cards, thank you cards and Valentines Day cards now that the holidays are over. She has already raised $400!

Both Ashley and Caroline are just two examples of young people who decided to “Become Part of the Equation” by raising money for our charity. Good Luck Girls!

We've been busy speaking to students all over Long Island. The most recent schools were Lynbrook South, Woodmere Middle School, Sea Cliff Elementary, Glenwood Landing Elementary and Glen Head Elementary.

We were all inspired after speaking to these students. The support that we have received from them, their teachers, and administrators has been overwhelming. We were able to help hundreds of kids and educators become "Part of the Equation"!

1>0 Girls Attend First Annual Tween Summit In Washington DC and Sponsor Their First RAM Expedition!

On October 10th, we all drove down to Washington DC to attend the AllyKatzz Tween Summit! Hundreds of tween girls from across the United States attended this amazing weekend event. The girls were lucky enough to hear many inspiring women speak.

Jess Weiner, an awesome writer for Seventeen Magazine, was the moderator at the summit. Among the speakers was Brandi Chastain, an Olympic Gold Medalist. She, along with the other incredible women spoke to these tweens about working hard, living their lives to their fullest and never giving up on their dreams. Hundreds of girls were there to realize that they can make a difference in the world! Even we were inspired! The event showed girls that even though they're not adults, they do have a say in this world!

We were even able to show our 1>0 video and sell our bracelets, necklaces and t-shirts at the event. In addition to raising a lot of money for our causes, we also raised social awareness! 1>0 also met and spoke to Brooke White, Jacob Latimore, and Debby Ryan! We gave them our jewlery and told them about our organization. They were all so supportive and Debby Ryan even twittered about us! It was a wonderful weekend!!!!

1>0 also sponsored our first RAM medical expedition on October 3rd and 4th in Grundy, Virginia. We are so thrilled to have been a part of such a successful weekend. There were 747 volunteers who provided $777,196 worth of medical care to over 1,000 patients. YES… 1,000 patients were given free medical services that weekend because of your support of ONE IS GREATER THAN NONE! We are looking forward to sponsoring more medical expeditions and supporting RAM in their mission to provide free medical care to Americans in need. America's Most Encouraging Teenagers

The 1>0 girls earned the top prize of $5000 and the title of America's Most Encouraging Teens from The Encouragement Foundation. The girls were recognized for their outstanding example of service, showing the world that teenagers can make a difference.

The Encouragement Foundation sent a team to travel seven days to 14 major American cities, stretching from San Francisco to New York, to seek out and share the stories of teenagers who are striving to make a difference in their schools, communities and the world.

The trip began on September 5th in San Francisco and concluded September 12th, the National Day of Encouragement, in a celebratory event in New York City. This event commemorated the National Day of Encouragement and honored the organizations that partnered with 7 Days Across America. The event also included the premiere of One Drop, a personal documentary created by Wishing Well: Water for the World, about the international water crisis.

On June 2, 2009 the 1>0 girls each received a Town of Hempstead Citation recognizing their work with the IOM, Touch A Life and RAM organizations. Supervisor Kate Murray, with the help of Councilwoman Angie Cullin, honored the girls for their hard work, incredible generosity and significant contributions to the citizens of our country and abroad. The girls were very grateful to receive their Citations and their families and other residents of Nassau County were and are very proud of them.

What do the 1>0 girls have in common with Bill O'Reilly, Kathleen Rice, and James Dolan among others? The 1>0 girls were named one of the 50 most influential people on Long Island by the Long Island Press!

The Power List celebration was held on April 21st at the Airpower Museum in Farmingdale. The girls are so honored to be placed in the same catagory as the other 49 nominees. The girls met and spoke with Nassau County Supervisor, Tom Suozzi and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray. They also enjoyed a guided tour of this magnificent museum!

It was a beautiful celebration filled with many wonderful Long Islanders doing extraordinary things!

1>0 Girls Speak At Lynbrook South Middle School

On April 1st, the 1>0 girls had the opportunity to speak to the students and teachers of the Lynbrook South Middle School. When they arrived, they were so moved to see many of the teachers wearing the 1>0 tee shirts that were sent to the school earlier in the week.

The school held 3 different assemblies so that the girls could speak to each grade separately. They spoke about their mission, showed the DVD summarizing their first year accomplishments as a charity, and answered students' questions.

The 1>0 girls were touched by the response of everyone at Lynbrook South. Students and teachers purchased bracelets, necklaces and tee shirts. Their generousity helped the girls raise almost $1,300.

But...it didn't end there! The Principal, teachers and students decided that they wanted to raise enough money to save 1 child. They are determined to add to the almost $1,300 until they have a total of $4,300.

Lynbrook South Middle School has become "PART OF THE EQUATION"! They are preparing to change the life of a child forever.

The 1>0 girls have been asked by so many other kids, "How can I help?", "What can I do to raise money so that I can donate it to your cause?"

Emily Goldstein, of the Jericho Middle School, decided to do something. She decided that it was time for her to help change the life of a child. She bought some bracelets and a tee shirt. By doing just that, Emily became "Part of the Equation". However, she did not stop there.

Emily was so moved with the girls' charity that she decided to tell her Community Service teacher, Ms. Kipnis, about the 1>0 girls and their mission. Together with the other members of the Jericho Middle School Community Service Class, they held a bake sale. Emily and her friends raised $1,039!

Who would have thought that something as simple as a bake sale could bring in such a huge donation!!!! In Emily's own words, "All of us here at Jericho, think it is amazing that you created this organization to save these children. You have really inspired us."

Well, Emily Goldstein, we have news for you. YOU, your Community Service class, Ms. Kipnis and all the students and teachers at Jericho Middle School are the ones who inspire the the 1>0 girls. They think that you are all AMAZING! It's people like you who "Make A Difference!"

Jantsen's Gift: A True Story of Grief, Rescue, and Grace

Nine years ago, Pam Cope owned a cozy hair salon in the tiny town of Neosho, Missouri, and her life revolved around her son’s baseball games, her daughter’s dance lessons, and family trips to places like Disney World. She had never been out of the country, nor had she any desire to travel far from home.

Then, on June 16th, 1999, her life changed forever with the death of her 15-year-old son from an undiagnosed heart ailment.

Needing to get as far away as possible from everything that reminded her of her loss, she accepted a friend’s invitation to travel to Vietnam, and, from the moment she stepped off the plane, everything she had been feeling since her son’s death began to shift. By the time she returned home, she had a new mission: to use her pain to change the world, one small step at a time, one child at a time.

Today, she is the mother of three children, 2 of whom are adopted from Vietnam. More than that, she and her husband have created a foundation called “Touch A Life,” dedicated to helping desperate children in countries as far-flung as Vietnam, Cambodia and Ghana.

Pam Cope’s story is on one level a moving, personal account of loss and recovery, but on a deeper level, it offers inspiration to anyone who has ever suffered great personal tragedy or those of us who dream about making a difference in the world.

The 1>0 girls are in awe of Pam Cope and her determination to change the world 1 child at a time. She is their hero and their inspiration to save as many children as possible.

1>0 Benefit Concert A Huge Success!!!

The 1>0 girls want to thank everyone who attended the Benefit Concert, on March 20th, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan. You all became Part of the Equation and helped to make the evening a huge success!

The evening was filled with music, lots of love and some very special guests. A check for $68,800 was presented to Niurka Pineiro, from the IOM, and a huge supporter of the girls. The audience watched a DVD sent from Ghana. It was a message from the boys of Ghana thanking the girls for their efforts in rescuing them. It was so heartwarming to see these children happy and wearing what else? The One Is Greater Than None tee shirts the girls sent them, of course!

The girls were also thrilled to have Pam Cope join them. She had flown in from Ghana and made a stop in New York before returning to her home in Texas. Pam wanted to be with the girls on their very special night. The night would not have been complete without her.

The girls want to thank the bands who participated - Push Play, Tamarama, Graham Colton, Saving Jane and WOW! Look for these bands to make it big in the music industry! They were AWESOME! A thank you goes out to Chris Koon and Tiffany Giardina for doing an amazing job as the hosts of the evening. Tiffany also sang with Push Play and is another up and coming artist!

Most of all, the girls would, once again, like to thank Nicole Borden - the Chairperson - of the Benefit Concert and Jamie Klaben, Nicole Zion and everyone on their committee for making the whole night possible. The amount of time and work that went into planning and organizing this event is indescribable. Words can never express how fortunate the girls feel to have had this experience. Thank you.

The 1>0 girls were invited to speak to the 3rd and 4th grade Brownie troops of School #8 in Oceanside, New York. These young girls are the future. They listened to a presentation outlining the purpose and accomplishments of the charity which included the watching of the 1>0 DVD. The Brownies were then given a chance to ask questions.

After enjoying some snacks together, Sammi, Anjelica and Ariel showed the Brownies how the bracelets are made. A few of the girls had the opportunity to try it for themselves. It was a wonderful afternoon where the 1>0 girls did what they love to do best - spread the word that everyone can become "Part of the Equation" and do something, ANYTHING to change the life of someone in need.

ONE CONCERT - ONE TICKET - ONE LIFE

On Friday, March 20th from 7pm - 11 pm, some of today's hottest musicians including Push Play, Saving Jane, Tamarama (featuring Jay Lyon from MTV's "The City"), Graham Colton and WOW, will perform in the One Is Greater Than None Benefit Concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom at Manhattan Center Studios. The event will be hosted by one of today's up and coming talents, Chris Koon and the audience members can expect surprise appearances from addtional TV celebrities.

In addition to an evening of incredible music, the 1>0 girls will present a check for $68,800 to a representative of the International Organization for Migration to pay for the rescue and rehabilitation of 16 children in March!

Three teens from Hewlett High School, Nicole Borden, Jamie Klaben and Nicole Zion are responsible for organizing the concert. The girls have spent endless hours organizing and planning every aspect of this benefit concert. The 1>0 girls are forever grateful to these inspiring teens who chose to become PART OF THE EQUATION and change the lives of so many children.

Eric Peasah Came to Visit 1>0!

Earlier this month, Eric Peasah flew in from Ghana to meet with the 1>0 girls. Eric is the man responsible for personally rescuing the children of Ghana who are sold into slavery. The girls were so fortunate to be able to spend the day with Eric and 2 representatives from the IOM. They were so inspired by his stories of the children and how their lives are forever changed once they are rescued. It made them more determined to raise the money needed to sponsor their own rescue mission of 25 children!

The 1>0 girls would like to thank those who have recently shown their support. Their generosity and that of so many of you have touched their hearts more than you'll ever know. The girls' goal of sponsoring a whole rescue mission, of 25 children, is slowly becoming a reality.

Thank you to the Men's Organization at the Merrick Jewish Center. They donated $720 to One is Greater Than None. What a wonderful way for this organization to support the young people in their own backyard!

Thank you to the campers, staff and alumni of Camps Baco and Che-Na-Wah for their donation of $500. What a wonderful message to send to their young campers and a great way to help them become "Part of the Equation"!

The 1>0 girls had the pleasure of speaking to the members of the Community United Methodist Church in Massapequa, NY. A special thank you to Paul who organized the event which included the church's youth group.

The girls were able to share information about their charity and answer questions from the audience. Everyone was so supportive and generous. The girls raised $300 during their one hour visit! They thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone and spreading their message.

The girls also heard, through the grapevine, that some of the members of the youth group were planning on possibly starting their own charity! Levy Lakeside Dance-A-Thon

The Levy Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick, NY held a dance-a-thon to raise money for 1>0 and the Make A Wish Foundation. The students danced the evening away on Friday, April 11th. The girls were so excited when they heard that the student council had chosen them as one of the charities to support and they had a great time dancing and seeing their elementary school teachers.

The students raised over $3,000 for 1>0!!!!!! A special thank you goes out to the Lakeside Student Council, Mrs. Bechinna, Principal Hanan and all of the students who participated.

Pay It Forward Conference

The 1>0 girls were asked to make a presentation at the PAY IT FORWARD Conference which took place on April 4th at the Nassau Boces Education Center in Westbury, NY. Student representatives, from more than 30 Long Island Schools, participated in the conference.

Pay It Forward is a phenomenal book (and movie) written by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It's a beautiful story. The basic premise of the story is that instead of someone paying you back for a good deed that you performed for them, ask them to perform a good deed for 3 people. This way instead of paying you back, they are paying it forward. Then those 3 people will each do the same and so on.

Brian Mannix, a Social Studies teacher at the Great Neck South Middle School, organized the event. He brought together student representatives from different schools on Long Island and had them listen to different charitable organizations' presentations. The goal was to have these students go back to their schools and find a way to "Pay It Forward".

The girls were honored to speak and as a result raised money and awareness for their cause and mission. They received an email from Mr. Mannix saying that everyone at the conference was so moved by their presentation, that those who attended agreed to raise $4,300 to save 1 child!

As an added bonus, one of the girls actually received a phone call from the author herself, Catherine Ryan Hyde! It was truly an extraordinary experience!

The girls have become pen pals with some very special children. Who you ask? Well, they just received a photograph of the 8 children they are responsible for saving. They have decided that they want to form a relationship with these children. Each girl chose a child's name from a hat. They will be corresponding with their chosen child. Ofcourse, their hope for the future is to travel to Ghana so that they can meet all of these children in person. Until then, writing to them will have to do.

Girls Meet With Pam Cope!

On Thursday night, the girls had the honor of meeting with Pam Cope. Pam is the woman who was on Oprah's show. She is the woman who decided to take action after reading the NY TIMES article on Mark and the horror occuring in Ghana. It was watching Pam and hearing her story that inspired the girls to do something.

Pam shared her experiences with the girls and what amazing stories she shared. The girls were fascinated by her and Pam answered each of their questions while giving them invaluable advice. Pam and her husband are incredible human beings. They have devoted their lives to saving one child at a time. Sound familiar?

You will soon be able to read about Pam and her life's journey. Her story will be in book stores by next year. Keep checking the website for more information of when her book will be available. You will be forever changed after reading her story.

There was something that Pam shared that touched everyone that night. The story went something like this: There was a person who saw a crowd of people, one very cold day, gathering around something in the street. When this person went closer to the crowd, he noticed that the crowd had gathered around a street child who had frozen to death. How could this be? How could so many people pass this child each day and not do anything to help him? All that child needed was one person to help him. It has been said that every suffering child has been "assigned" someone, by God, to save them. The person "assigned" to this child failed.

When an opportunity to help save a child is upon you, do something. You may be saving the child that has been "assigned" to you.

SUCCESS IN GHANA!

The recent IOM Rescue Mission took place between January 19th and January 22nd. With the help of many donors, including the 1>0 girls, 36 children were saved. The girls were able to sponsor 8 out of the 36 children who were rescued!

Eric Peasah, the project manager of the Counter Trafficking Unit of IOM's mission, and his crew rescued this group of 36 children from fishing villages in the Lake Volta Region of Ghana. Throughout 2007, the IOM identified and registered 424 children working for 800 fishermen on five islands. The IOM had enough funds to rescue 36 of these children. These children will be taken care of for 2 1/2 years.

You may be asking, "What will happen to the rest of the 424 children?" The rest of these children will be constantly monitored. When enough money is raised, another rescue mission will take place.

The 1>0 girls decided, at their Sunday night meeting, that they want to sponsor a whole rescue mission. That's right. Their original goal was to save 1 child and they saved 8. The girls are determined to raise enough funds to sponsor a whole rescue mission! They can do it with your help!

Comment: I just wanted to voice my support for this wonderful organization. I had the honor of meeting Mark and Kofi, the two boys featured in Oprah's story earlier this year. I was in Ghana, Africa this past January. Upon being lost I wound up at the Village of Hope orphanage to ask for directions. Fate brought me to those two boys where I learned of their tragic history and the tragic epidemic of child slavery in the fishing villages. The trunk show at Camp and Campus of Great Neck was a success! A special thank you to the owner Mark Wolf for his support. Mark, in addition to carrying the clothing line, has purchased bracelets and necklaces to sell at his boutique.

Tonight the girls will be at the Roosevelt Field Mall for the annual NIGHT OF GIVING. The mall will close at 6pm and reopen from 7 - 10 pm for all those who buy a special $10 ticket. This ticket will allow you to shop and enjoy discounts throughout the mall. The girls will be selling tickets at the entrance near the Apple Store and Pannini Shop near the Macys parking lot. Ninth Child Saved!!!!!

It's unbelievable that within a 24 hour period, 1>0 has raised enough money to sponsor their 9th child during IOM's January rescue mission. There's more great news! Because of today's trunk show purchases and donations at Camp and Campus, in addition to the purchases and donations made on line and at Max and Gino's yesterday, the girls are close to sponsoring their 10th child!!!!!

The girls say it over and over that your support, whether it's a donation or purchase, is telling these children that they have not been forgotten. It's because of YOU that a child will receive that soft tap on the shoulder, by a rescuer, telling them that "It's over. Your nightmare is over and we have come to take you home." That $1 donation, 1 bracelet, 1 necklace, 1 article of clothing from the apparel line has given a child their life back.

Don't be fooled into thinking that a purchase of one bracelet cannot possibly make a difference in this world. The 1>0 girls have proven that it can.

It's official! The 1>0 girls have raised enough money to sponsor 8 children during IOM's rescue mission in January - a goal they set back in April when they began their journey as a charity together.

One Is Greater Than None is off to Northern Westchester!

On Saturday, November 3rd, the girls of 1>0 will be appearing in Westchester to premier their new clothing line at "Penny Auntie" located at 11 King Street in Chappaqua. They will arrive at 12 noon. They will be selling their bracelets and necklaces made with beads from Ghana. Customers will be able to choose a bead and have a custom bracelet made by one of the girls.

If you're in Merrick on November 2nd, come by the Levy Lakeside Elementary School on Babylon Tpke. and Merrick Road in Merrick, New York. The girls will participate in a Vendors Night as part of a PTA fundraiser. They will be selling their bracelets, necklaces and clothing. The event begins at 4:30 pm.

Girls Save Their 5th and 6th Child!

The 1>0 girls have officially saved their 5th and 6th child from a lifetime of hardship. Their goal is to save 8 children by the next scheduled rescue mission in January. They can do it with your help!

Please support the girls' efforts by continuing to visit and telling everyone you know about this website. Donations and purchases can be made on the website.

You can also help by visiting the clothing stores that will be carrying the 1>0 clothing. The clothes will be available in stores by the end of October. Keep checking the website for store locations and remember 20% of all sales come back to 1>0!

Thank You Sea Cliff!

The girls set up a booth at the Sea Cliff Mini Mart on Sunday, September 30th. With the support of the Sea Cliff community and generosity of those who attended, the girls were able to raise $1,110! Most importantly they were able to spread their message that "one is greater than none". Their goal of saving 8 children by January is becoming a reality!

On November 2nd, the girls will have a booth at the Lakeside PTA Vendors' Night. It will take place at the Levy Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick, NY. The Lakeside PTA was nice enough to allow the girls to participate in an evening of shopping! Bracelets, necklaces and clothing will be sold at the 1>0 booth.

The 1>0 clothing line was featured at PROJECT Las Vegas from August 28th to August 30th. Everyone loved the clothes and sales of the line were incredible! Because of the show's success and the online sales, the girls are close to saving another child.

The 1>0 girls will have their own booth at the Sea Cliff Mini Mart on Sunday, September 30th. Their booth number is 156 which will be located between Prospect and Central Avenues in Sea Cliff. The Mini Mart is a huge event for the beautiful town of Sea Cliff. The girls would love to see you there!

It's off to Chappaqua for another trunk show! Who knows who the girls might bump into! They'll be selling their bracelets and necklaces while orders are placed for the clothing. Keep checking the BLOG for the date and any upcoming events!

Exciting Happenings for 1>0!

On Saturday, August 18th, the 1>0 girls were at the Max and Gino's Woodbury and Merrick locations. With the help of Z100, they were able to spread their message and introduce their clothing line. The Max and Gino's customers loved the clothing and were very supportive of the cause. A special thank you to the store managers, Lori and Maggie, for helping to make the event a success and to Kerry Gillick-Goldberg for organizing the trunk show. The clothing can be found at the Max and Gino's locations in early October.

The launch of the ONE IS GREATER THAN NONE charity line was incredible at the FAME Show, at the Jacob Javits Center, and on August 28th-30th the clothing line will be featured at PROJECT Las Vegas!

TeenVOGUE has decided to feature the girls and the clothing line in their Dec/Jan 2008 issue that will hit the stands late November/early December. This will give 1>0 another opportunity to gain even more support for their charity. The girls' goal of sponsoring a rescue mission is becoming a reality! More and more people are becoming "Part of the Equation".

Girls Save Their Third and Fourth Child!

Amcan Charter Imports in Canada is officially the manufacturer of the 1>0 apparel line. Amcan's president, Stephen Beallor, is excited about the prospect of saving children in Ghana and bringing awareness to the girls' efforts. The girls received a generous $10,000 check from Stephen as an advance against future sales. The orders for sales in stores has been overwhelming. Thanks to Stephen and our amazing sales rep., Kerry Gillick-Goldberg, the 1>0 apparel will be available across the country before you know it. 1>0 Apparel Line Launched in NYC

August 5th to August 7th - The ONE IS GREATER THAN NONE girls launched their new clothing line in NYC during the FAME Show at the Jacob Javits Center. The response to the girls' clothing was incredibly positive and boutique owners and buyers, from all over the country, were excited to support the girls. 20% of all sales will be donated to sponsor the rescue missions in Ghana. In addition, the buyers loved the styles and the fact that some of the apparel is organic!

Kerry Gillick-Goldberg, who many buyers in the fashion industry already know, is representing the 1>0 line. Mr. Britton Jones, President & CEO of Business Journals Inc., generously donated the ONE IS GREATER THAN NONE booth at the FAME Show.

The clothing line will be in stores sometime this fall. The girls will be at Max and Gino's on Saturday, August 18th for their very first "trunk show". They will be at the Woodbury location from 2-3pm and at the Merrick location from 4-5pm. They hope to see you all there.

On July 31st Eric Peasah, (International Organization for Migration), who runs the rescue missions in Ghana came to New York to meet some of the 1>0 girls. It was really exciting. WABC sent a film crew to tape the meeting. Take a look. (Don't forget turn up the volume.)

Saving Our First Child

On June 16, we saved our first child by raising $4,300. As soon as they announced that we officially saved one child, I was filled with joy and I knew that I was changed forever. It impacted me so much that I almost cried from being so content. I’ve realized that not everyone has a good life like I do. So many people and children are living on the streets, starving to death or [like in Ghana] sold and forced to do hard labor. This charity has impacted me so much that I stopped going out to the store to buy an expensive pair of jeans and now I save that money to donate. 1>0 changed my outlook on things. I hope that my friends and I can continue this charity for a very long time. Saving a child gives me a great feeling inside and knowing that my friends and I can possibly save hundreds just makes me happier than ever. Hopefully we can continue our charity and help people in all parts of the world.
